Dr. Sejal Prajapati received a Bachelor’s degree from Boston University in Psychology and Biology and a Master’s degree in Experimental Psychology from Seton Hall University. She subsequently earned her Doctoral degree in Clinical and School Psychology from Kean University. She has taught various psychology courses to college students and science classes to middle and high school students.

Sejal’s clinical orientation is profoundly impacted by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy’s focus on committing to behaving according to one’s values, or deepest desires of how one wants to live her/his life.

One of her main clinical interests is helping people develop resiliency, or the ability to recover after challenging experiences. Resiliency is an integral part of Sejal’s work because she believes that if people had the skills to productively cope with their challenges, they could stay on track towards their life goals no matter what life throws at them. Through her research, she started to grow in her understanding and love of a construct called self-compassion. In simple terms, self-compassion means being non-judgmentally loving and supportive towards oneself.

Sejal developed a resiliency program, Commit to You. In Commit to You, participants are guided to intentionally live their lives by becoming actively involved in doing what is important to them. In the program, their value-based behavioral change is supported by the development of various skills based on self-compassion, values clarification, and daily goal setting.
